The geophysical survey in area of the mediaeval fortress in Popovice (township Benešov)

The Master's thesis "Geophysical survey in the area of the mediaeval fortress in Popovice" is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and summarizes the possibilities of using electrical resistivity tomography method (ERT) in archaeology. The second part deals with the actual geophysical prospecting in the area of the mediaeval fortress in Popovice (Benešov county). General information on the locality including geological setting, past geophysical exploration in the area, history of the object, archaeological findings and overview of construction development are addressed in this part, prior to the description of the field measurements. Methods used on the site are then specified: symmetrical resistivity profiling, dipole electromagnetic profiling, electrical resistivity tomography and ground penetrating radar. Subsequently, the process of field measuring in the area of the fortress is described and the data processing methods are discussed. The results of these measurements and their interpretation on the basis of compiled geophysical maps and sections are presented finally. Archeology of the Fortified Manor in the Czech Lands. To the beginnings of the Medieval Fortified Residences

Archaeology of the fortified manor in the Czech lands To the beginnings of the medieval fortified residences The work is dedicated to the medieval fortified manor in the Czech lands with regard to the need to formulate new questions. He marginally considers the questions of actual and historical terminology and its semantic content. To explore the functions of the fortified manors the structure of the associated settlement is discussed. A substantial testimony is attributed to some of selected written sources pointing to the legal-historical or jurisdictional context of "private" fortified settlements/residences. A separate chapter is devoted to the analysis of several examples of archaeological research from the Czech lands and from western parts of Europe, which revealed situations classifiable to fortified manor, respectively castles, which was preceded by much less or not at all fortified settlements, while maintaining close spatial continuity. So the questions concerning the beginnings of that type settlements are pronounced. With this packet of problems the work deals applying a comparative analysis that leads to some reassessment of the importance of the Romanesque church with the western tower as a kind of reduction of the castle model known from contemporary (12th century) Western European regions...
The addition to the history of southern noble residences. The archeology of Horní fort in Kestřany

The topic of this bachelor work is a medieval fort called Horní which is located in Staré Kestřany, district Písek. One of the most inportant aims of this work is to summarize archeological knowledge connected with this fort and to report on accessible archeological stuff originated from the well of Horní Kestřany fort. The aim of this work is to give evidence of the living standards in this locality throught the agency of this stuff. This attention was also dedicated to medieval fort in general.
Dendrochronology of representative autochtonnous tree species on environmental and temporal gradients

This thesis is focused on application methods of dendrochronology on various ecological and historical aspects of forest communities, human management practices, and historical utilization of wood. Studies revealed growth responses of trees in various type of forest vegetation represented by spruce forest, alder carr and alluvial forests and involved autochthonous tree species with all morphological types of wood. These works demonstrated necessity of dynamic evolving of the regional chronologies for the Czech Republic.

Paper presents conditions of chosen buildings in 2007-2008. Document does not present all existing buildings of this type. Sample is however selected to represent wide spectrum of architectural styles as from Gothic style, over Renaissance to historicist styles of 19th century. Author comes out both from information stated in the various specialized and touristic publications and from the outcomes of his own survey.
